"Made from equal parts Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Syrah, the 2016 Lirac La Reine des Bois carries on this cuvée’s tradition of richness. Blueberries and blackberries abound, dusted with cocoa and cinnamon. Full-bodied, rich, and dense, it offers considerable aging potential if you have the courage to resist it. It has a long, juicy finish, revealing notes of licorice and baking spices.” (Wine Advocate 2018 - Joe Czerwinski) A great bottle!

Wine rated 14/20 (Good wine)

Rated estate (2024 guide) 4*Stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)

About the estate:

The estate produces highly expressive wines from the finest vineyards of Vaucluse and Gard. Every effort is made with deep respect for the terroirs, driven by a commitment to crafting wines that live up to their full potential. Madeleine Delorme, alongside her daughter Ambre, continues to work with great care and determination, upholding the spirit of excellence that defines both the estate and this winemaking family. A superb range of salty, full-bodied whites and deep, delicate reds, animated by a refreshing tension and a perfectly balanced structure. The estate is evolving its style toward increasingly refined and precise wines. The fourth star is fast approaching.

Hachette Wine Guide

Guide Hachette des vins

Wine noted (guide 2019) 1*Star (Very successful wine)

Rated estate (2024 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the wine:

An intense nose rich in black fruit gives way to a harmonious, full-bodied, and long finish.

About the estate:

Founded in 1986 by Francis Delorme and his son Christophe, the 58-hectare estate (certified organic and biodynamic) is spread across 38 plots and eight municipalities. Following Christophe’s untimely death in 2015, his wife Madeleine and their daughter Ambre took over the reins of the estate. Advocates of low yields, the Delormes produce vintages with disconcerting ease, whether in Tavel—their original stronghold—Lirac, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, or “simple” Côtes-du-Rhône. A must-try.

About the wine:

Made from equal parts Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Syrah, the 2016 Lirac La Reine des Bois continues this cuvée’s tradition of generosity. Blueberries and blackberries abound, dusted with cocoa and cinnamon. Full-bodied, rich, and dense, it offers considerable aging potential if you have the courage to resist it. It has a long, juicy finish, revealing notes of licorice and baking spices. Tasted twice and consistently excellent.

Tasted again in late 2020... it's even better now, with fruit still very much present, a lovely body, and a rich, indulgent flavor.
