"A sure bet"

"Leading the 2018 vintage, the 2018 Lirac La Dame Rousse is a blend of equal parts Grenache and Syrah, aged entirely in stainless steel tanks. It is a more open and expressive wine than the more structured Reine des Bois; it possesses plenty of Provençal charm, with aromas and flavors of spicy red and black fruits, peppery garrigue, and incense. It’s already hard to resist this charming, medium-bodied 2018, which should be enjoyed within about 4 to 5 years.” (Jeb Dunnuck) A cuvée combining power and freshness that will delight lovers of distinctive southern wines!

Rated estate (2024 guide): 4* Stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)

About the estate:

The estate produces highly expressive wines from the finest vineyards of Vaucluse and Gard. Every effort is made with deep respect for the terroirs, driven by a commitment to crafting wines that live up to their full potential. Madeleine Delorme, alongside her daughter Ambre, continues to work with great care and determination, upholding the spirit of excellence that defines both the estate and this winemaking family. A superb range of salty, full-bodied whites and deep, delicate reds, animated by a refreshing tension and a perfectly balanced structure. The estate is evolving its style toward increasingly refined and precise wines. The fourth star is fast approaching.

Wine rated (2019 guide) 91/100

About the wine:

This classic Lirac has a supple, elegant, and harmonious style, with pleasant black fruit notes and a hint of pepper. It is ripe, with good acidity and well-integrated tannins. It also has decent length—not particularly complex, but a successful wine for this vintage. Organic, hand-harvested, fermented and aged in stainless steel.

Hachette Wine Guide

Guide Hachette des vins

Rated estate (2024 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines regularly receive awards from the guide)

About the estate:

Founded in 1986 by Francis Delorme and his son Christophe, the 58-hectare estate (certified organic and biodynamic) is spread across 38 plots and eight municipalities. Following Christophe’s untimely death in 2015, his wife Madeleine and their daughter Ambre took over the reins of the estate. Advocates of low yields, the Delormes produce vintages with disconcerting ease, whether in Tavel, their original stronghold, in Lirac, in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, or in “simple” Côtes-du-Rhône. A must-try.

A classic Lirac—perfectly fruity, not too bold. A wine for friends, even as an aperitif

Review by Mr. BALTHASAR T. Published on May 18, 2022

As a big fan of the “queen of the woods” from the same estate, I’m a little disappointed by this wine. The aromas of red fruit and garrigue are rather subtle, and while the texture is silky, the acidity is excessive on the finish. It’s not bad, but you can find much better wines for less money at many other estates in Lirac—for example, at Château de Ségries, Château de Manissy, Domaine Maby, the little-known but fantastic Château Devoy-Martine, or Domaine Bouchassy.

Review and comment by Mr. GILLES D. Published on 11/28/2021

A quintessentially southern wine with sparkling, ripe fruit flavors of blackcurrant, raspberry, and cherry, which play delightfully on the palate alongside notes of spice and garrigue. It offers body, texture, and fine, supple, powdery tannins that carry us toward a fresh, mouth-watering finish. Thanks to its subtle balance, you’d never guess it’s 14.5% ABV. La Mordorée reaffirms the consistent quality of its beautiful, delicious Lirac, which rightfully earns it a place among the appellation’s finest wines. However, a victim of its own success, La Dame Rousse is starting to command a high price. Suitable for aging, this well-opened 2018 proved, at 18°, to be the perfect pairing for venison medallions, cranberries, and small porcini mushrooms freshly foraged in the Cévennes.
