Arnaud de Villeneuve

In the 13th century, Arnaud de Villeneuve, a physician and philosopher by profession, learned the process of distillation during his travels in the East and, through his research, discovered the benefits of “blending grape juice with its own brandy.” His work led him to understand the process of fortification, used in particular to produce Rivesaltes, that renowned natural sweet wine. In naming this Arnaud de Villeneuve...the Cooperative Winery wanted to pay tribute to him in this way.
