“A rare grape variety”

“Everything about this Persan is deep and powerful: the dark garnet color, the aromas of blackcurrant, red berries, and spices, and the high-quality but still youthful tannins, well supported by the oak and a subtle acidity—the hallmark of this beautiful Savoyard grape variety, now rescued from obscurity. One to watch.” (Le Guide Hachette 2025)

Deep and fruity with excellent length. Rich and indulgent in its youth with well-integrated woody notes, this is a wine built for aging. Le Persan does not reveal itself immediately; it can be enjoyed young for its freshness and vibrancy, but with patience and a few years of aging, it will open up further and its tannins will soften.

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated 2 stars (A solid, recommendable production, though slightly more conventional and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

This large 28-hectare estate was long managed by André and Michel. Guillaume, Michel’s son, joined the business in 2009. The estate is located on the steep hillside of Torméry, south of Chignin. It was the grandfather who oversaw the replanting in the 1950s. The estate avoids herbicides as much as possible but cannot work all its plots by hand. Guillaume is experimenting with organic farming on the two and a half hectares he acquired to establish the Côteau de Torméry estate. He is also conducting aging trials in large oak casks or stoneware. A broad, consistent range with promising innovations.

About the estate:

Michel Quénard took over the family estate, founded by his grandparents, in 1976. His son Guillaume joined him in 2009, after studying at the wine school in Beaune and then at the engineering school in Changins (Switzerland), and took over the reins of this estate, one of the most renowned in Savoie, known for its consistently high quality in both red and white wines.
