"Star Cuvée"

“What elegance and balance! Is it due to the age of the vines—over 50 years old? To the nature of the soil—steep slopes of limestone gravel—and to the iconic Roussanne, the jewel in the crown of Savoie wines? Or perhaps to the expertise of Michel Quenard and his son Guillaume? A little of everything, a lot of everything—and certainly all of it! The nose evokes a meadow in spring, with white fruit and stone fruit (peach and apricot), enveloped in honeyed notes. As for the palate, it is full-bodied, supple, and generous, elegantly fruity (apricot kernel) and incredibly seductive. Save this wine for the dinner table to pair with a lovely Bresse chicken in cream sauce. ” (Le Guide Hachette 2026)

Rated 2 stars (A solid, recommendable wine, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

This large 28-hectare estate was long managed by André and Michel. Guillaume, Michel’s son, joined the business in 2009. The estate is located on the steep hillside of Torméry, south of Chignin. It was the grandfather who oversaw the replanting in the 1950s. The estate avoids herbicides as much as possible but cannot work all of its plots by hand. Guillaume is experimenting with organic farming on the two and a half hectares he acquired to establish the Côteau de Torméry estate. He is also conducting aging experiments in large oak casks and stoneware vessels. A broad, cohesive range featuring promising innovations.

About the wine:

What elegance and balance! Is it due to the age of the vines—over 50 years old? To the nature of the soil—steep slopes of limestone gravel—and to the iconic Roussanne, the jewel in the crown of Savoie wines? Or perhaps to the expertise of Michel Quenard and his son Guillaume? A little of everything—or a lot—undoubtedly! The nose evokes a meadow in spring, with white and stone fruits (peach and apricot) enveloped in honeyed notes. On the palate, it is full-bodied, supple, and generous, elegantly fruity (apricot pit) and utterly seductive. Save this one for the dinner table, paired with a lovely Bresse chicken in cream sauce.

About the estate:

Michel Quénard took over as head of the family estate, founded by his grandparents, in 1976. His son Guillaume joined him in 2009, after studying at the wine school in Beaune and then at the engineering school in Changins (Switzerland), and took the reins of this estate—one of the most renowned in Savoie, known for its consistently high quality in both red and white wines.

A wine with no flaws, but it doesn't live up to my expectations in terms of aroma and flavor.
