“A legendary vintage that has gone down in the history of the Drouhin estate: exceptional!”

“A very elegant and silky Pinot Noir that unfolds on the palate with aromas of ripe cherries and baked plums, underpinned by a tart note of black cherries that lends it liveliness and balance. One of Drouhin’s most consistent wines year after year, and this vintage is of excellent quality. Drink now or cellar. ” (James Suckling 2024)

Located at the southernmost tip of the Beaune appellation, bordering Pommard, this mid-slope parcel features a gentle, east/southeast-facing slope and spans 14 hectares. It was one of the very first properties acquired by Maurice Drouhin (son of the founder) in 1920, with soils composed of clay and limestone (upper section: stony soil; center of the vineyard: marl-limestone rock)

Reasoned

Grape Harvest

Manual, in open-top crates

Winemaking

Whole-cluster harvest (20–50% depending on the vintage), fermentation and maceration (2–3 weeks) in small open-top tanks, moderate punching down and pumping over, use of indigenous (natural) yeasts, pressing in a vertical press, separation of the press residue based on tasting

Deep ruby color, bright core

Nose

Intense and complex, with aromas of blackberry and raspberry, along with hints of smoke and licorice; upon aeration, subtle notes of black pepper, dark tobacco, and forest floor emerge

Rated estate (2022 guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often boasting fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)

About the estate:

The estate is now led by Frédéric Drouhin, supported by his sister Véronique for the wines and his brother Philippe in the vineyards. In July 2013, it opened a wine bar in the heart of Beaune. It has found its stride and has established itself as a sure bet. The estate draws on a biodynamic vineyard particularly well-stocked with great white wines, in the Côte-de-Beaune as well as in Chablis (wines sold under the Drouhin-Vaudon label), including the famous Clos des Mouches.

About the wine:

Pure and velvety, with aromas and flavors of black cherry, blackberry, violet, sandalwood, and mineral notes, this red wine boasts a sumptuous texture and beautiful harmony. It is carried by a lively acidity that extends its intense finish. It offers superb balance and a lovely length on the palate. Best enjoyed between 2028 and 2047.
