Ladoix
The Ladoix appellation d'origine contrôlée is a Village appellation in the Côte de Beaune, in the Côte-d'Or. It comprises 11 climats classified as Premier Cru. The Ladoix and Ladoix Premier Cru appellations may or may not be followed by the name of their climate of origin.
The upper part of the hillside is located on stony, reddish (ferruginous oolite), limestone and fairly marly soils: the great white wines. Halfway up the hillside, the soils are brown limestone, still reddish and abundantly rich in flinty limestone debris: full-bodied, flamboyant reds, tempering their ardor with more clayey soils at the foot of the hill. Exposure: east or southeast/south. Altitude: 230 to 325 meters.
The red wines of the Ladoix AOC are made from the Pinot Noir grape variety, while the white wines are made from Chardonnay.
Characteristics of the wines:
Red: its color often evokes that of a brilliant garnet with purple highlights. The bouquet is filled with raspberry, cherry, candied or brandy-soaked fruit, and ripe fruit. There are also vegetal (elderberry) or spicy (clove) notes, as well as coffee and cocoa. On the palate: Its tender character blends smoothly with a round, full body, a velvety texture on a good structure and just the right amount of tannins.
White: light gold or straw in color, its aromas lean towards acacia, often with a buttery accent. Classic bouquet of plum, ripe apple, quince, fig, and even spicy pear. Lively and firm, yet restrained, this wine's fullness and richness balance its spontaneous freshness. Sweetness develops with age.
