Ladoix
The Ladoix Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC) is a Village appellation in the Côte de Beaune, in the Côte-d’Or. It comprises 11 climats classified as Premier Cru. The Ladoix and Ladoix Premier Cru appellations may or may not be followed by the name of their climate of origin.
The upper part of the hillside is situated on stony, reddish soils (ferruginous oolite), limestone, and fairly marly soils: these produce the great white wines. Midway up the hillside, brown limestone soils—still reddish in color and rich in flinty limestone fragments—produce full-bodied, flamboyant reds, whose intensity is tempered by the clayier soils at the foot of the hillside. Exposure: east or southeast/south. Altitude: 230 to 325 meters.
The red wines of the Ladoix AOC are made from the Pinot Noir grape variety, while the white wines are made from Chardonnay.
Wine characteristics:
Red: Its color often evokes that of brilliant garnet with purplish highlights. The bouquet is filled with aromas of raspberry, cherry—whether candied or preserved in brandy—and ripe fruit. There are also vegetal (elderberry) or spicy (clove) notes, as well as hints of coffee and cocoa. On the palate: Its delicate profile smoothly embraces a round, full-bodied structure, with a velvety texture supported by good structure and just the right amount of tannins.
White: Gold or pale straw in color, its aromas lean toward acacia, often accented with a buttery note. A classic bouquet featuring plum, ripe apple, quince, fig, or even a hint of spiced pear. Lively and firm, yet able to control its momentum, this wine’s fullness and richness balance its natural freshness. Its sweetness develops over time.
