Ladoix
The Ladoix AOC is a Village appellation in the Côte de Beaune, in the Côte-d’Or department. It comprises 11 vineyards classified as Premier Cru. The appellations Ladoix and Ladoix Premier Cru may or may not be followed by the name of their climat of origin.
The upper part of the hillside is situated on stony, reddish soils (ferruginous oolite), limestone, and fairly marly: the great white wines. Mid-slope: brown limestone soils, still reddish and abundantly rich in flinty limestone debris: full-bodied and flamboyant reds, tempering their intensity with more clay-rich soils at the foot of the hillside. Exposure: east or southeast/south. Altitude: 230 to 325 meters.
The red wines of the Ladoix AOC are made from the Pinot Noir grape variety, and the white wines from the Chardonnay grape variety.
Wine characteristics:
Red: its color often evokes that of brilliant garnet with violet highlights. Raspberry, cherry—whether candied or preserved in brandy—and ripe fruit fill the bouquet. There are also vegetal (elderberry) or spicy (clove) notes, as well as hints of coffee or cocoa. On the palate: Its delicate profile smoothly embraces a round, full-bodied structure, with a velvety texture supported by good structure and just the right amount of tannins.
White: Gold or pale straw in color, its aromas lean toward acacia, often accented with a buttery note. A classic bouquet featuring plum, ripe apple, quince, fig, or even a hint of spiced pear. Lively and firm, yet able to control its momentum, this is a wine whose fullness and richness balance its natural freshness. The sweetness develops over time.
