Pinot Noir
role model

“In its home territory, the estate demonstrates its ability to showcase the terroirs of the village appellation. This 2017 displays pleasant, subtle fruity notes accented by gentle spices. The palate is dense, with a hint of austerity on the finish that will mellow with time. ” (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2020). Floral fruit, remarkable balance— the archetype of Nuits-Saint-Georges!

Wine rated 15/20 (Very good wine)

Rated estate (2020 guide): 4 stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)

About the wine:

A tight, concentrated nose should blend seamlessly into this archetypal, deep-black Nuits-Saint-Georges. Its balance is remarkable.

About the estate:

With 120 hectares of vineyards—70 of which are located in the Côte Chalonnaise—and one of Burgundy’s most beautiful cellars in Nuits-Saint-Georges, along with recent expansions such as the lease of the Zibetti estate and the acquisition of the Dupont-Tisserand and Billaud-Simon estates, Faiveley is more than ever an indispensable ambassador for the great wines of Burgundy around the world. And we are delighted that this is not at the expense of the high standards of quality and style across all appellations and price points. The focus on vineyard work is paying off; the estate’s wines showcase the integrity and precision of expression in each cuvée, whether white or red. The 2017 vintage is once again a success and a cohesive collection.

Guide Hachette des vins

Wine noted (guide 2020) 1*Star (Very successful wine)

Rated estate (2022 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the wine:

In its heartland, the estate demonstrates its ability to showcase the terroirs of the village appellation. This 2017 vintage offers pleasant, subtle fruity notes accented by mild spices. The palate is dense, with a hint of austerity on the finish that will mellow with age.

About the estate:

Founded in Nuits-Saint-Georges in 1825, this estate has been a leading name in Burgundy for seven generations. Erwan Faiveley has been at the helm since 2005, having succeeded his father, François. Today, it is one of the largest vineyard owners in Burgundy: 120 hectares stretching from the northern Côte de Nuits to the southern Côte Chalonnaise, including 10 hectares of Grand Cru and nearly 25 hectares of Premier Cru.

Wine rated (2019 guide) 88/100 (Good wine)

Estate rated "Recommended" (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)

About the wine:

The 2017 Nuits-Saint-Georges Village offers aromas of ripe cherries, wild berries, smoked meats, and spices. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, full-flavored, and rich, with fine but youthful tannins that provide structure, ripe acidity, and an open profile. Unlike most vintages of this cuvée, it will be enjoyable even when young.

Wine rated (2020 guide) 15,5/20 (Good wine)

Rated estate (2022 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)

About the wine:

Fairly supple and approachable, it showcases floral notes that enhance its earthy character. It is ready to drink early.

About the estate:

With the help of his technical director, Jérôme Flous, Erwan Faiveley took over from his father in early 2005 and has since been quietly revolutionizing this vast estate with its exceptional vineyard heritage, which has expanded in recent years. The style of the wines has subtly evolved: solidly built around a dense structure and less austere than in the past, they now display a clear fruit character that expresses itself earlier. While the oak notes were once somewhat green, they now take on toasted flavors. With improved ripeness, the grapes have, however, tended to integrate better over the past few vintages. The wines as a whole, particularly the reds, have made significant progress. A spectacular new winery was used for the first time for the 2018 harvest. This estate has successfully developed its wines with precision and intelligence.
