Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2021 guide) 4 stars (Producers of very high quality, the pride of French vineyards)
About the estate:
Run by the Devillard family, who also own Château de Chamirey in Mercurey, the vineyard is located on remarkable terroirs in the southern Côte de Nuits, and its production is vinified in the spirit of modern wines, seeking high grape maturity and deep, voluptuous textures. The results have been convincing for several years now, starting with the communal appellations, with very fine juices where we used to know them as rather solid. All the fullness possible in 2018 has been captured here, and these will be wines for aging, even very long aging for the Nuits and Echezeaux. Also a delightful red Burgundy.

About wine:
Sample tasted from the barrel. Rich black fruits with a tarry note on the nose that could make you think it was Nebbiolo rather than Pinot. Wonderfully fragrant on the palate with a vegetal note that leaves a long and satisfying aftertaste, ending with a finish of floral notes of juniper berries. Best enjoyed between 2022 and 2037.
