Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2021 guide): 4* Stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)
About the estate:
Run by the Devillard family, who also own Château de Chamirey in Mercurey, the vineyard is situated on remarkable terroirs in the southern part of the Côte de Nuits, and its wines are crafted in the spirit of modern winemaking, seeking high grape ripeness and deep, voluptuous textures. The results have been impressive in recent years, even at the village appellation level, with wines featuring very refined juices where we previously found them to be rather robust. The full potential of the 2018 vintage has been captured here; these will be wines for aging, and indeed for very long aging in the case of the Nuits and Échezeaux. There is also a delightful red Burgundy.
