Louis Roederer Champagne
In 1833, Louis Roederer inherited the Champagne House. A winemaker first and foremost, he set out to expand the family vineyard by carefully acquiring plots of land in the Grand Cru regions. By 1850,
the
estate covered nearly 100 hectares.
His successor, Louis Roederer II, carried on this work and continued to expand the family’s holdings. Beginning in 1870, Louis Roederer Champagnes were exported , notably to Russia for Tsar Alexander II, for whom he created the famous Cristal cuvée in 1876.

It was not until the 1920s, when Léon Orly Roederer took over the house, that the desire to create a consistent, non-vintage cuvée emerged with the first sketches of the Brut Premier.

Today, the House of Louis Roederer remains a family-owned business, led by Frédéric Rouzaud, a descendant of Louis Roederer. It owns 240 hectares of vineyards, comprising 420 plots, located exclusively in the Premier and Grand Cru vineyards of the Marne.
