Vega Sicilia & Benjamin de Rothschild - Macan Clásico 2015

Vega Sicilia & Benjamin de Rothschild - Macan Clasico 2015

93/100

Robert Parker

“It’s crisp, modern, and well-balanced, with integrated oak and the typical flavors of berry fruits and a hint of spice. On the palate, it’s medium-bodied, with grainy tannins and enough elegance to counterbalance its natural power. I think 2015 is a real success, a vintage that surpasses many others. ” (Wine Advocate 2019 - Robert Parker) Please note: this is an exceptional product! Very limited quantities available!

About the wine:

The entry-level Macán Clásico 2015, made from 100% Tempranillo grapes grown on 92 hectares of vineyards in the villages of Ábalos, Labastida, El Villar, and San Vicente de la Sonsierra. It ferments in stainless steel tanks after cold pre-fermentation, followed by partial malolactic fermentation in barrels and aging for 12 to 14 months in new and one-year-old French oak barrels. This is the last vintage fermented in the old winery, but it completed its aging in the new cellar. The new winery appears to be much better equipped; starting with the 2016 vintage, the wines are more precise, with a wide variety of tanks, notably through the introduction of 4,000-liter casks, and they can also handle press wines separately. 2015 is a riper, warmer vintage, but they harvested earlier to find the right balance and avoid overripeness. It is clean, modern, and balanced, with integrated oak and the usual berry fruit flavors and a hint of spice. The palate is medium-bodied, with grainy tannins and enough elegance to counterbalance the natural power. I think 2015 is a real success, a vintage that surpasses many others.
