"Another combination of freshness and depth from Toro. Nose of blackberries, graphite, ashtray, sandalwood, cocoa powder and black olives. Fresh, chalky tannins grip the palate, with a nervous backbone. The tannins extend to a long finish. Ripe but fresh. Drink from 2026. About the wine:
Another accomplished vintage for the Toro de Vega Sicilia project. Technical Director Gonzalo Iturriaga says it was a difficult vintage, with illusory freshness. But ideal harvest timing and maceration management enabled him to produce a balanced wine, with superbly integrated alcohol. Intense, expressive aromas of dark chocolate, dried black olive, prune and licorice root mingle with Assam tea (for an elegant smoky allure) and crisp blueberries. A pleasant rusticity, lined with dried sage, defines the luscious, grippy tannins. The finish is long, spicy and earthy. 2025-2040

About the wine:
Pintia 2020 comes from a year of high concentration, which is why we took great care with the harvest date, made a gentler vinification by trying to extract less, and included amphorae and less toast in the ageing process. The wine is opulent and juicy, but soft. The wine reaches 15.5% alcohol and has a pH of 3.9 with 4.4 grams of acidity. It was fermented in stainless steel and oak tanks with indigenous yeasts. The vintage was very hot and dry in Toro, with a heat wave before harvest, so the grapes had to be hurriedly picked; and yet the wine is richer and more powerful, even if the amphorae helped to contain the feeling of ripeness in the wine. It has a heady, ripe profile, very aromatic and showy, with notes of very ripe berries, prunes and rotten violets, with a slight volatile touch. It was aged 70% in new barrels, 10% in used barrels, 10% in stainless steel and 5% in clay pots. Full-bodied and lush, with abundant, slightly dusty tannins. This was a ripe and powerful vintage for Pintia, but it has evolved well in the glass, showing less of its ripe side with time, which for me is a good sign. 2026-2032
