"Another combination of freshness and depth from Toro. Nose of blackberries, graphite, ashtray, sandalwood, cocoa powder, and black olives. Fresh, chalky tannins grip the palate, with a nervous backbone. The tannins extend into a long finish. Ripe but fresh. Drink from 2026. About wine:
Another successful vintage for Vega Sicilia's Toro project. Technical director Gonzalo Iturriaga says it was a difficult vintage, with deceptive coolness. But perfect timing of the harvest and careful management of maceration enabled him to produce a balanced wine with superbly integrated alcohol. Intense and expressive aromas of dark chocolate, dried black olives, prunes, and licorice root mingle with Assam tea (for an elegant smoky allure) and crisp blueberries. A pleasant rusticity, coupled with dried sage, defines the savory and grippy tannins. The finish is long, spicy, and earthy. 2025-2040

About wine:
The 2020 Pintia comes from a year of high concentration, which is why we paid close attention to the harvest date, carried out a gentler vinification process to extract less, and included amphorae and less toasted oak in the aging process. It is an opulent and juicy wine, but smooth. The wine has an alcohol content of 15.5% and a pH of 3.9 with 4.4 grams of acidity. It was fermented in stainless steel and oak vats with indigenous yeasts. The vintage was very hot and dry in Toro, with a heatwave before the harvest, so we had to rush to pick the grapes; yet the wine is richer and more powerful, even though the amphorae helped to contain the sensation of maturity in the wine. It has a heady, ripe profile, very aromatic and showy, with notes of very ripe berries, prunes, and rotten violets, with a slight volatile touch. It was aged 70% in new barrels, 10% in used barrels, 10% in stainless steel, and 5% in clay pots. It is full-bodied and lush, with abundant, slightly dusty tannins. It was a ripe and powerful vintage for Pintia, but it has evolved well in the glass, showing less of its ripe side with time, which is a good sign in my opinion. 2026-2032
