Valencia
Valencia is the Denominación de Origen (DO) created in 1932 for wines from the Valencia region of Spain. The appellation is divided into four production areas: Valentin corresponds to the land that gradually rises from the sea towards the interior; Alto Ruria, located west of Valentin, corresponds to a plateau reaching an altitude of 625 meters; Moscatel is located west of the city; and Clariano is an isolated area bordered to the north by the city of Valencia and to the south by the city of Xàtiva.
Many different grape varieties are used to produce Valencia wines, both local and foreign. Red wines are made from Monastrell, Grenache, Syrah, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Bobal. White wines are blended from Merseguera, Malvasía, Moscatel, Macabeo, Forcayat, Sémillon, Tortosí, and Verdil grapes.
The Valencia appellation, influenced by both the hot, dry Mediterranean climate and the altitude of some of its vineyards, offers an interesting diversity of wines, both white and red. Wine lovers will find something to their taste among the wines offered by one of the 87 producers, including Bodegas El Angosto and Blackboard Wines.
