Langhe
The Langhe is a hilly area located south and east of the Tanaro River, in the province of Cuneo, in the Piedmont region of Italy. Piedmont is, for lovers of Italian wine, the sacred land of winemakers. Here, and particularly in the Langhe, food and wine are as inseparable as they are in Burgundy.

Langhe wines are characterized by their power, richness, personality, and maturity. Piedmont (at the foot of the mountains) is 95% planted on hillsides at the foot of the Alps, near France and the city of Turin. Each vineyard in Langhe enjoys its own microclimate. The macroclimate of the region is characterized by intense heat during the growing season, autumn mists, and harsh winters with frequent thick fog.

The Langhe appellation (the generic name for the region) is vinified south of Alba, using Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, Freisa, and Arneis grape varieties grown on heavy, clay-rich marl soils. These qualities are fully reflected in the wines produced by Domaine Elio Altara and Poderi Aldo Conterno.
