Rated estate (2025 guide) 3*Stars (High-quality production, setting the standard in its sector)

About the estate:

A deep understanding of the terroir (43 hectares of clay-limestone soil) enables the production of well-rounded wines. The blend varies by vintage, combining Atlantic grape varieties (Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon) with Mediterranean ones (Syrah, Malbec, Grenache). The Chardonnays produce some of the appellation’s finest white wines. A new barrel cellar inaugurated in 2018 ensures the estate’s continued growth and ambition. Managed like a classified growth, it is a sure bet.

Rated estate (2024 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the estate:

Formerly owned by the Abbey of Saint-Polycarpe in the 17th century, this estate (now 43 hectares) was acquired in 1998 by Baroness Philippine de Rothschild (Château Mouton-Rothschild in Pauillac) and her two sons, who completely renovated both the vineyards and the winery, turning it into one of the appellation’s most reliable wines.

Wine rated 90/100

About the wine:

Deep purple color with violet highlights and an almost black core. An expressive nose with a slightly reductive initial impression, opening up nicely to aromas reminiscent of blackberries and blackcurrants, ripe black cherries, and floral notes of violet, with hints of raw meat in the background. On the palate, it is well-structured with ripe tannins, juicy fruit, black berries and black stone fruits, notes of iron and minerality on the finish, with excellent length.

Wine rated 92/100

About the wine:

One might assume that the higher percentage of Syrah here places this wine outside the Limoux appellation. If so, it is an excellent choice that reflects the estate’s philosophy: not to let appellation rules—established under different climatic conditions—limit the expression of the terroir. This is particularly well achieved in a vintage that was, however, not an easy one. This wine is wild, floral, herbaceous, and quite delicate, with the natural power of the Syrah slightly tempered in favor of freshness. Yet it still retains the distinctive smoky character of Syrah, which reminds me more of a good Saint-Joseph!
