"A Gamay wine that all 'aficionados' should try!"

The Gamay vines, growing on soil that is half volcanic and half clay-granite, offer a distinctly mineral character unique to these basalt soils. The wine is fresh, bursting with red fruit flavors supported by subtle spicy notes. The rich, fruity palate is explosively fresh, with a light structure.

About the estate:

Gilles Bonnefoy built his estate from the ground up starting in 1997: he planted the vineyards between 2001 and 2016 and established the winery in 2004. Today, the 10.5-hectare estate is farmed biodynamically and is situated on the outskirts of two volcanoes: La Madone and Le Pigeonnier.

Wine rated (2025 Guide) 92/100 (2023 Vintage)

Rated estate (2025 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)

About the estate:

Les Vins de la Madone offers one of the most exciting experiences in the Côtes du Forez, a low-key appellation situated between Saint-Étienne and Clermont-Ferrand, at the gateway to the Livradois-Forez Nature Park. Gilles Bonnefoy strives to capture the sparkling purity of the fruit, both in his Gamay reds and in his whites (IGP d'Urfé), a Roussanne and a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sauvignon Gris. This vibrancy, drawn from granite and volcanic soils, is achieved through biodynamic viticulture (certified in 2008), vinification that partially uses whole clusters, and aging exclusively in tanks. The star is firmly set.
