Wine rated (2025 guide) 89/100

Rated estate (2026 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)

About the wine:

Maimbré embodies the precise and expressive white Sancerre. It is the one that will appeal to the widest audience; this is a quality, and not a minor one at that.

About the estate:

The Raimbault brothers, Julien and Clément, embody the new generation of Sancerre winemakers. Over the past few vintages, we’ve been delighted to see a more relaxed approach to the wines’ expression. They’re now more laid-back and indulgent, while retaining the precision that has become their trademark. 2022, a sunny vintage, is a masterful balancing act! 2023, unsurprisingly, has produced wines that are more refined and elegant.

Review by Mr. GILLES D. Published on 10/23/2024

A modern and particularly successful Sancerre from an exceptional 2023 vintage. It just goes to show that, despite the prevailing conventional wisdom, global warming can sometimes have positive effects, particularly on certain vineyards, notably those in Sancerre. Indeed, the Sauvignon has gained in quality, maturity, density, and also volume. Not to mention the pleasant sensation of dazzling freshness and liveliness provided by the savory citrus notes and the pure, chalky minerality with good length. One caveat, however: Pré Semelé comes at a price... This lovely, sunny, and already very expressive white wine will enhance your upcoming holiday meals, served as an aperitif with wild salmon roe on toast, followed by a starter of Boudeuse oysters, and finally with pan-seared turbot fillets in orange butter sauce and carrot purée. Rating = 4.1.
