"On the edge of the Coulée de Serrant, discover this superb white wine with exceptional charm"

"This 2022 already displays a compelling aromatic profile, brimming with notes of green sap and orchard fruit. On the palate, it is structured, intense, firm, and deeply aromatic, with flavors that seem to come from stone and rock as much as from fruit, and with that sensation of green sap and leaf that infuses the wine. It is a beautifully articulated wine with a unique character, from a superb, very dry vintage in the Loire, and one that will certainly age well.” (Decanter). Wine delivered without a capsule.

Rated 2 stars (A solid, recommendable production, though slightly more conventional and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

This 45-hectare vineyard, 80% of which is planted with Chenin, produces a wide range of white wines. René handles the winemaking, while his older brother Christophe tends the vines. They aren’t organic, to be sure, but the soil is worked “their own way.” In the cellar, the same meticulous care prevails, with a variety of vats of all kinds (stainless steel, cement, cylindrical, buried, 30-hectoliter wooden vats by Stockinger...), suited to crafting nuanced and complex wines. The sweet wines are the estate’s greatest strength, as is the Savennières series (13 hectares), impeccably balanced.

Wine rated (2024 guide) 97/100

About the wine:

This young 2022 vintage still has a long life ahead of it, but it already displays a compelling aromatic profile, full of notes of plant sap and orchard fruit. On the palate, it is structured, intense, firm, and deeply aromatic, with flavors that seem to come from stone and rock as much as from fruit, and with that sensation of plant sap and leaf that infuses the wine. It is a beautifully articulated wine with a unique character, from a superb, very dry vintage in the Loire, and one that will certainly age well.

About the estate:

This 46-hectare estate, formed by the merger of two family-run vineyards, has been managed by René Papin since 2010. It is particularly renowned for the quality of its white wines, both dry and sweet. A must-visit.

Wine rated (2026 guide) 17,5/20

About the wine:

Very rich and full-bodied—an intense style that I love, though some might say it’s too sweet. Very long and rich, with a powerful finish.

Vinous

Vinous

Wine rated (2024 guide) 93/100

About the wine:

The 2022 Savennières Roche aux Moines is remarkably dense, with a full body, lovely hints of apple, and floral notes. It is a wine that is ripe but not overly so, beautifully structured, with ripe phenolic notes that give it real bite and are sure to make your mouth water.
