About the estate:

This 45-hectare vineyard—80% of which is planted with Chenin—produces a wide range of white wines. René handles winemaking, while his older brother Christophe tends the vineyards. They aren’t organic, to be sure, but the soil is worked “their own way.” In the cellar, the same meticulous care prevails, with a variety of tanks of all kinds (stainless steel, cement, cylindrical, underground, 30-hl wooden tanks by Stockinger…), suited to crafting nuanced and complex wines. The sweet wines are the estate’s greatest strength, as is the Savennières series (13 hectares), impeccably balanced.

About the wine:

The 2021 Savennières Clos de Coulaine reflects the low yields caused by frost. There is just enough body in the mid-palate, thanks to 18 months spent on the lees, complemented by a firm backbone of acidity and minerality, which lend structure and length. It really comes into its own on the finish with a hint of spice and notes of flowers and flint.
