Rated estate (2024 guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often boasting fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)

About the estate:

Since 2014, Stéphane Ogier has been making wine in an ultra-modern winery in Ampuis, where he gives free rein to his creative talent. Of the 18 hectares cultivated by this estate, 3.5 hectares are located on beautiful plots in Côte-Rôtie. Stéphane joined his father Michel in 1997 after studying oenology in Beaune, where he developed a taste for elegance and finesse. The wines are made from partially destemmed grapes (50% whole-cluster in the Lancement cuvée). The precision of recent vintages, the rigorous selection of single-vineyard cuvées, and the style the wines now exhibit place the estate among the elite, with a third star now within reach.

Review by Mr. Gilles D. Published on October 18, 2024

Medium-bodied to full-bodied and marked by the beautiful ripeness of the excellent 2022 vintage, this wine offers immediate pleasure with its abundant, intensely fruity flavor (raspberry, redcurrant, blackcurrant), underscored by scents of garrigue and framed by supple, silky tannins, and above all, accompanied by great freshness. Deep and lively finish, with a hint of pepper. Excellent value for money. This is the perfect Southern red, crafted with restraint, that will perfectly complement grilled Aubrac beef skewers with thyme and pork ribs, served with ratatouille. Rating = 4.1.

Medium-deep purple. Nose: ripe blackberries, dark forest fruits, forest earth, green herbs, celery, and a hint of toast. On the palate, a very juicy attack of ripe and unripe blackberry fruit, nicely sweet, with exciting acidity and firm tannins at the same time. Grip, excellent body, and tension. Not grand or profound, but full of character and typicity. Honest and pure. Pairs well with many occasions. Score: 15.5/20
