Rated estate (2024 guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often boasting fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)

About the estate:

Since 2014, Stéphane Ogier has been making wine in an ultra-modern winery in Ampuis, where he gives free rein to his creative talent. Of the 18 hectares cultivated by this estate, 3.5 hectares are located on beautiful plots in Côte-Rôtie. Stéphane joined his father Michel in 1997 after studying oenology in Beaune, where he developed a taste for elegance and finesse. The wines are made from partially destemmed grapes (50% whole-cluster in the Lancement cuvée). The precision of recent vintages, the rigorous selection of single-vineyard cuvées, and the style the wines now exhibit place the estate among the elite, with a third star now within reach.

Review by Mr. Gilles D. Published on April 14, 2025

This flagship cuvée once again delivers an exquisite culinary delight. Born of an exceptional vintage, this 2023 CDR checks all the boxes: powerful and well-structured; generous, fresh fruit at peak ripeness; a full-bodied, substantial yet supple texture; deep, silky tannins enhanced by understated aging; and a lovely, lingering, spicy finish. Pure pleasure in conclusion, and all at a reasonable price and for years to come! The time has already come to enjoy it in good company with friends over a barbecue of Sisteron lamb chops with herbes de Provence, accompanied by a vegetable tian. Rating = 4.2.
