Notes: Robert Parker 90/100, Guide Hachette 1* (Very successful wine)
“A classic blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre, this 2011 reveals intense aromas of black fruit, alcohol, and coffee. Ripe tannins and well-integrated oak lend the palate beautiful body and a pleasant sensation of smoothness. A generous and harmonious wine, best served in three or four years with red meat in sauce.” (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2014)

Rated estate (2020 guide) 1*Star (A high-quality, recommendable wine that lives up to what one would expect from its appellation(s))

About the estate:

A leading figure in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Tavel, Alain Jaume runs a family-owned business focused on high-quality wine trading as well as their own exceptional vineyards in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and the Côtes du Rhône. Their greatest source of pride is the Vin du Grand-Veneur, a classic Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Clos de Sixte, the family estate located in Tavel, offers a fine representation of the terroir, while in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the old-vine cuvée ranks among the appellation’s finest wines. The estate’s future is brilliantly secured by Alain Jaume’s children.

Guide Hachette des vins

Wine noted (guide 2014) 1*Star (Very successful wine)

Rated estate (2022 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the wine:

The Jaume family runs a vast 78-hectare estate (currently in the process of converting to organic farming), which has included the 21 hectares of Clos de Sixte since 2003. A classic blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre, this 2011 vintage reveals intense aromas of black fruit soaked in alcohol and coffee. Ripe tannins and well-integrated oak lend the palate a beautiful fullness and a pleasant sensation of smoothness. A generous and harmonious wine, best served in three or four years with red meat in sauce.

About the estate:

Originally from Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Alain Jaume and his sons, Sébastien and Christophe, carry on a winemaking tradition dating back to 1826. They cultivate 155 hectares of organic vineyards spread across four estates: Grand Veneur in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Clos de Sixte in Lirac, Ch. Mazane in Vacqueyras, and Dom. la Grangette Saint-Joseph in the Côtes-du-Rhône AOC, all complemented by a wine merchant business. A sure bet.

Gault & Millau Wine Guide

Guide des Vins Gault & Millau

4-star rated estate (Very high-quality production)

About the estate:

In the Jaume family, they have been winemakers "...ever since Mathieu Jaume decided to plant vines in Châteauneuf-du-Pape in 1826." Odile and Alain Jaume and their sons, Christophe and Sébastien, now manage a 70-hectare vineyard (Domaine Grand Veneur, Clos de Sixte) that also produces wines under the Lirac and Côtes du Rhône appellations. As expected, Grenache Noir and Syrah dominate the vineyard’s grape varieties. The estate began transitioning to organic farming in 2009.

Wine rated (2013 guide) 90/100 (Excellent wine)

Rated estate (2022 guide) Recommended (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)

About the wine:

The 2011 Lirac Clos de Sixte reveals notes of black cherry, leather, and herbaceous earth, with a medium-bodied profile that makes it easy to drink. It stands out for its immediate approachability and also offers solid aromatic complexity. Best enjoyed within 4–5 years, and through 2019.
