Domaine Grand Veneur - Côtes-du-Rhône Les Champauvins rouge 2023
3*Coup de Coeur
Hachette
"Baptized "baby Chateauneuf" by Robert Parker".
A Côtes-du-Rhône with all the makings of a great wine! After an enticing nose, the palate reveals different layers of aromas (wild berries, smoky notes, pepper, licorice). The tannic structure is very present, yet enveloped by the softness of the Grenache. A few years ago, Robert Parker didn't hesitate to call it "baby Chateauneuf"...

Bettane & Desseauve
Domaine rated (2020 guide) 1*Star (A serious, recommendable production, in line with what one has the right to expect from its appellation(s))
About the domain :
A key figure in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Tavel, Alain Jaume's family runs a top-quality wine merchant business, as well as owning fine vineyards in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Côtes du Rhône. Their main source of pride is the grand-veneur wine, a classic Châteauneuf. Clos de Sixte, the family estate in Tavel, offers a fine image of the cru, while in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the cuvée de vieilles-vignes is one of the appellation's finest wines. The estate's destiny is being brilliantly assured by Alain Jaume's children.

About the wine:
Named after its locality - a terroir of rolled pebbles on a matrix of marine molasse, adjacent to the Châteauneuf-du-Pape cru - this ambitious Côtes-du-Rhône impresses with its intensity. The color is deep, fringed with purplish hues. The nose is complex and precise, blending blackcurrant paste, cloves, hydrocarbon notes and roasted barrel nuances. As for the palate, both full and fresh, framed by dense tannins and taut with superb freshness and violet accents, it stretches into a long, saline finish. An irresistible red, still in the ardor of youth. We're waiting.
About the domain :
Of Castelpapal origin, Alain Jaume and his sons, Sébastien and Christophe, perpetuate a winegrowing tradition that dates back to 1826. They manage a 155-hectare organic vineyard spread over 4 estates: Grand Veneur in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Clos de Sixte in Lirac, Ch. Mazane in Vacqueyras, and Dom. la Grangette Saint-Joseph in AOC Côtes-du-Rhône, all complemented by a trading activity. A sure bet.

Grenache noir and Syrah dominate the grape varieties. The estate began the transition to organic farming in 2009.
