“It’s more like a Châteauneuf-du-Pape than a Côtes du Rhône (Parker)”

"Named after its locality—a terroir of rounded pebbles on a bed of marine molasse, bordering the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation—this ambitious Côtes-du-Rhône impresses with its intensity. The color is deep with violet hues. The nose, complex and precise, blends blackcurrant paste, clove, notes of hydrocarbons, and toasty nuances from the barrel. On the palate, it is both full-bodied and fresh, framed by dense tannins and driven by superb freshness with hints of violet, lingering into a long, mineral finish. An irresistible red, still in the prime of its youth. We await its development.” (Le Guide Hachette 2026)

Rated estate (2020 guide) 1*Star (A high-quality, recommendable wine that lives up to what one would expect from its appellation(s))

About the estate:

A leading figure in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Tavel, Alain Jaume runs a family-owned business focused on high-quality wine trading as well as their own exceptional vineyards in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and the Côtes du Rhône. Their greatest source of pride is the Vin du Grand-Veneur, a classic Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Clos de Sixte, the family estate located in Tavel, offers a fine representation of the terroir, while in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the old-vine cuvée ranks among the appellation’s finest wines. The estate’s future is brilliantly secured by Alain Jaume’s children.

An irresistible red, still in the prime of its youth. We’ll wait and see.

About the estate:

Originally from Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Alain Jaume and his sons, Sébastien and Christophe, carry on a winemaking tradition dating back to 1826. They cultivate 155 hectares of organic vineyards spread across four estates: Grand Veneur in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Clos de Sixte in Lirac, Ch. Mazane in Vacqueyras, and Dom. la Grangette Saint-Joseph in the Côtes-du-Rhône AOC, all complemented by a wine merchant business. A sure bet.

4-star rated estate (Very high-quality production)

About the estate:

In the Jaume family, they have been winemakers "...ever since Mathieu Jaume decided to plant vines in Châteauneuf-du-Pape in 1826." Odile and Alain Jaume and their sons, Christophe and Sébastien, now manage a 70-hectare vineyard (Domaine Grand Veneur, Clos de Sixte) that also produces wines under the Lirac and Côtes du Rhône appellations. As expected, Grenache Noir and Syrah dominate the vineyard’s grape varieties. The estate began transitioning to organic farming in 2009.
