"The best wine from this historic estate is made almost entirely from Tannat, giving it a strong, dense structure. But the Tannat's tannins are balanced by bold, ripe black fruit concentration. This wine is still developing and will likely be ready from 2022 onwards." (Wine Enthusiast)

Well-mannered, spicy, straightforward, and sincere, it remains a timeless classic. Ripe fruit accompanied by spices, menthol, and licorice. Decant before serving.

Acquired in 2046 by the Bortolussi family, it is managed by sisters Claire and Marion, while Lionel Osmin is responsible for marketing. The estate is committed to promoting biodiversity in the vineyard (HVE3 certification obtained). The quality of the vintages is consistent, and the wines combine full-bodied structure with finesse. Rated estate (2025 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly recognized by the guide)
About the estate:
Founded around 1850, this family estate has been passed down through six generations. Following in the footsteps of his father Louis, Didier Barré, who took over in 1983, contributed to the revival of Madiran, of which he was one of the standard-bearers. In 2017, sisters Claire and Marion Bortolussi (daughters of Alain Bortolussi of Ch. Viella) took over the reins of this flagship 25-hectare estate, forming a partnership with wine merchant Lionel Osmin to manage the estate and market its wines. The conversion to organic farming began in 2020.

Powerful, still a little rough around the edges, should mellow with age.
