"An iron fist in a velvet glove!

"Enthusiasm sums up the jury's deliberations on this 100% tannat. Aged in vats after delicate manual extraction to bring out the best without excess, this Madiran is nonetheless intense and dark, open to powerful aromas of black cherry, plum and spices. On the palate, the velvety density of the tannins is underlined by a dazzling freshness, a guarantee of length and solid ageing potential. The wine concludes with an aromatic festival of ripe fruit and spices". (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2025)

About the wine:

Enthusiasm sums up the jury's deliberations in awarding this 100% tannat. Aged in vats after delicate manual extraction to bring out the best without excess, this Madiran is nonetheless intense and dark, open to powerful aromas of black cherry, plum and spice. On the palate, the velvety density of the tannins is underlined by a dazzling freshness, a guarantee of length and solid ageing potential. About the domain :

Founded around 1850, this family-run estate has seen six successive generations. Following in the footsteps of his father Louis, Didier Barré, who settled here in 1983, contributed to the revival of Madiran, of which he was one of the standard-bearers. In 2017, sisters Claire and Marion Bortolussi (daughters of Alain Bortolussi of Ch. Viella) took over the destiny of this flagship 25-hectare estate, forging a partnership with négociant Lionel Osmin to run the business and market the cuvées. Organic conversion has been underway since 2020.

Wine rated ( 2024 guide) 92/100 (Great wine)

Domaine noté Recommended (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)

About the wine:

100% Tannat, Aulet 2022 is more faithful to the soul of Madiran than its counterpart Charles de Batz. It reveals a dense, complex and balanced bouquet of violets, black wild berries, licorice and blackberries, mingled with a subtle touch of oak. It is medium to full-bodied, rich and enveloping, with a fine, fleshy fruit core and structured tannins that assert themselves in a long, penetrating finish. Macerated for 30 days and aged for 16 months in barrel, this is a well-executed Madiran.

About the wine:

Domaine Berthoumieu, located in the commune of Viella in the heart of Madiran, produces a highly structured wine. It has the solid, dry tannins of a young Tannat, on a base of rich black fruits that will develop with ageing.
