Marie-Thérèse Chappaz - Grain Arvine de Fully 2018 (doux)
97/100
Robert Parker
“Exceptional wine”
“Chappaz’s 2018 Grain Arvine de Fully is slightly sweet, but what an astonishing, brilliant, and sparkling wine! The bouquet is as bright as a sunny winter day in Valais, with a flinty scent reminiscent of gunpowder, along with bright, precise fruit aromas. [...] The palate is lush, intense, and concentrated, yet also pure and spicy. The finish is very elegant, with perfectly ripe and intense fruit, but the mineral backbone ultimately takes center stage. It is so briny, and the sweetness comes solely from the ripe fruit. The finish is extremely long. This is a world-class wine straddling the worlds of dry and sweet. [...] The finish of this Arvine is extremely long, complex, and briny, with great purity, precision, and freshness.” (Wine Advocate 2018 - Taster)

About the wine:
Chappaz's 2018 Grain Arvine from Fully is slightly sweet, but what an amazing, brilliant, and sparkling wine! The bouquet is as bright as a sunny winter day in Valais, with a flinty scent reminiscent of gunpowder, along with bright, precise fruit aromas. It reminds me a bit of Condrieu. This is a wine entirely defined by its terroir, and any attempt to guess the grape variety is a bad idea. The palate is lush, intense, and concentrated, yet also pure and spicy. Molitor’s best green-capped wines come to mind. The finish of this Arvine is extremely long, complex, and briny, with great purity, precision, and freshness. It can age for decades and rival any German Riesling. 14.9% alcohol plus 12 grams of residual sugar. Tasted in January 2020.
