The Le Rognet et Corton vintage offers aromas of fresh red fruits (blackcurrant, cherry) when young, and notes of truffle and leather as it ages. The structure is solid thanks to substantial tannins and well-defined acidity. Harmony in its suppleness and a long finish will reward those who have been patient enough to let it evolve.

Rated estate (2023 guide): 3 stars (High-quality production, setting the standard in its sector)

About the estate:

Frédérick and Franck Buisson, whose family has lived in the village since the 12th century, represent the eighth generation of winemakers at this historic Saint-Romain estate. Certified by Ecocert since 2012, they practice viticulture and winemaking in the most natural way possible. The red wines, which always contain a small amount of whole clusters, offer a precise expression of their terroir, championing the rediscovery of a Saint-Romain that we have rarely seen at this level. The precise whites are no exception.

Wine rated (2013 guide) 16/20 (Very good wine)

Rated estate (2023 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)

About the wine:

The Rognet et Corton has good depth, but its slight volatility detracts from its precision.

About the estate:

Frédéric, the winemaker, and Franck, the sales manager, run one of the largest estates in the southern part of the Côte de Beaune. Having practiced organic farming—certified since 2009—they made the transition to biodynamics in 2018. For the past ten years, they have been following the lunar calendar for their bottling. Diligent work in the vineyard and the cellar allows them to produce deep, distinguished wines that age well. This is an estate that beautifully showcases the Saint-Romain appellation in both red and white wines; the wines are refined, precise, and elegant. A range of wines that fully deserves its first star.

Review by Mr. BERNARD B. Published on October 15, 2013

A bold move: I served this wine with Milanese osso buco, and no one was disappointed. It was actually very well-received—full-bodied enough to stand up to the slightly spicy sauce. This wine is full of complex aromas, which make for an intense pleasure on the palate; it would almost be enough on its own, without any food. As it ages a bit more, the aromas will develop further and the tannins will soften, so I’m going to try to save the other bottles for a while longer... A marvel in any case, even now.
