"A never-ending finale..."

“Bright, deep red. Reserved yet ripe aromas of black berries, licorice, and dark chocolate. More full-bodied and smooth than the Boudots, it displays beautiful vinous character and a briny energy. This 2014 is powerful, deep, and dense, with the vineyard’s sometimes rustic tannins rounded out by the character of the vintage. Very long finish. ” (Vinous 2016) • Delivery in a wooden case is available for orders of 6 bottles of this wine (depending on the country and selected shipping method)

Rated estate (2025 guide): 4*Stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)

About the estate:

The Gagey family’s involvement with this true gem of Burgundy’s historical heritage began upon the death of Louis-Auguste Jadot. With no heir, the estate was entrusted in 1962 to André Gagey, who remained its manager until 1991, when he handed the reins to his son Pierre-Henry, who now oversees the 225 hectares of vineyards. Since 2011, winemaking has been overseen by Frédéric Barnier, who has seamlessly succeeded Jacques Lardière, further improving the consistency and uniformity of all the vintages. The white wines are pneumatically pressed and fermented directly in barrels, where they are aged on the lees with periodic stirring for 12 to 20 months. The red wines are vinified with the stems removed but without crushing, without cold pre-fermentation, and undergo a fermentation period of 25 to 27 days before beginning their aging for 12 to 22 months in barrels, one-third of which are new.

Wine rated (2015 guide) 90–92/100 (Excellent wine)

Estate rated "Recommended" (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)

About the wine:

The 2014 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru has a very alluring bouquet with aromas of red currant and wild strawberry, heather, and forest floor that develop with aeration. On the palate, it’s gripping from the very first sip, with firm, slightly grainy tannins. There’s something a bit muddled on the finish… perhaps a few underripe berries that I didn’t notice in Jadot’s other Gevrey Grand Crus. Let’s see how it evolves in the bottle.

Rated estate (2022 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or high-quality winemakers producing wines of a good standard—you won’t be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)

About the estate:

This prestigious wine merchant is run with great efficiency by Pierre-Henry Gagey, who is deeply involved in Burgundy. The company boasts an exceptionally extensive range and a superb collection of terroirs, including the major Burgundian appellations. Frédéric Barnier, who has been in charge of winemaking since 2012, is gradually making his mark by refining the wines. Consistency is one of this house’s strengths. While the whites display lovely balance, the reds are austere and severe, with oak notes that dominate the fruit—and even hints of acetate that, this year, make it difficult to assess certain vintages. Let’s hope this is only temporary, as the company’s reputation is at stake.

Wine rated (2016 guide) 90-92/100

About the wine:

Glossy dark red. Reserved yet ripe aromas of black berries, licorice, and dark chocolate. Fuller-bodied and more supple than the Boudots, it displays beautiful vinous character and a briny energy. This 2014 is powerful, deep, and dense, with the vineyard’s sometimes rustic tannins softened by the vintage’s character. Very long finish.
