Domaine Jacques Prieur
The history of Domaine Jacques Prieur dates back to the 19th century. Originally, Claude Duvergey and Marie Taboureau founded a wine trading company. In 1879, they began a winegrowing business, starting with the acquisition of "Les Herbeux" in Meursault, now the heart of Domaine Jacques Prieur, and vineyard land. With no direct heirs, Claude Duvergey bequeathed his entire estate to Jacques Prieur, son of Marie Taboureau's niece, in 1920.
Co-founder of the Chevaliers du Tastevin, Jacques Prieur gave his name to the 1956 estate. He died in 1965 and his wife in 1974, leaving the company equally to their 6 children. In 1988, five families joined forces to prevent Domaine Jacques Prieur from falling into the hands of foreign shareholders, including the Labruyère family, winegrowers from the Mâcon region.
Since its creation, Domaine Jacques Prieur has continued to grow and develop, notably with the acquisition of new Grand Cru parcels such as Corton-Bressandes and Corton-Charlemagne in the 1990's.
Today, the Labruyère family, supported by Martin Prieur (Jacques Prieur's grandson), works with passion to represent Burgundy's exceptional terroirs to the world.
