Birichino

Alex Krause and John Locke founded Birichino in 2008 in Santa Cruz, California. After gaining extensive experience in France, Italy, California, and elsewhere, the duo focuses on achieving the perfect balance between aroma, elegance, and a touch of playfulness.

Birichino sources its grapes from winemakers who work with care and have long been established in areas with a maritime influence and a moderate climate. The goal of this approach is to preserve the quality and vitality of the raw material. Consequently, the preference is for minimally interventionist methods, often favoring the use of indigenous yeasts, stainless steel tanks, or neutral barrels, reducing the number of rackings and finings, and avoiding filtration whenever possible.
