"A great success for the winery with this expressive and generous vintage."

"Once again distinguished, this brut blends equal parts Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, is partially aged in wood, and remains in the cellar for five years. A full-bodied, rich, mineral champagne with a tense finish, combining the freshness of citrus fruits with mature aromas (candied fruits, dried fruits, and marzipan)." (Le Guide Hachette 2025). Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Winery rated 2 stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

Located in the hills above Épernay, the Janisson-Baradon estate is run by Richard Janisson and his two sons, Maxence and Cyril. The vineyard comprises 9 hectares of hillsides surrounding the capital of Champagne, tended with care and attention. The Janissons have intelligently modernized the style of their wines, and this year once again, single vineyard selections dominated the tasting, with champagnes displaying assertive character while retaining the suppleness typical of the region. A sure bet.

Rated estate Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About wine:

Once again distinguished, this brut blends equal parts Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, is partially aged in wood, and remains in the cellar for five years. A full-bodied, rich champagne with a mineral finish, combining the freshness of citrus fruits with mature aromas (candied fruits, dried fruits, and marzipan).

About the estate:

Located in the hills above Épernay, this estate was founded in 1922 by a remouleur (wine blender) and a cooper. Today, it is run by their descendants, Maxence and Cyril Janisson, the former managing the business and the latter working in the vineyard and cellar. The brothers have more than 9 hectares of vines. HVE-certified property.

Gault & Millau Wine Guide

Guide des Vins Gault & Millau

Wine rated 91/100

1*Star rating (Serious production)

About wine:

The abundant foam reveals a rich, pastry-like nose. The palate is ripe, evoking bitter almonds punctuated with salty notes. This mouthwatering, rich cuvée offers beautiful texture. Reserve it for creamy dishes such as Vallée d'Auge chicken.

About the estate:

Founded in 1922 by Georges Baradon, a riddler, and his son-in-law, Maurice Janisson, a cooper, the house is still run by the Janisson family, who cultivate just over 9 hectares of vines on the western slopes of Épernay, in Chouilly and Brimont. Since 1997, the vineyard has been maintained by tilling the soil, without the use of any weedkillers. Most of the cuvées are a blend of equal parts Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Ordinary, harsh champagne. We didn't like it at all.

A lovely wine and an excellent alternative to big-name Champagnes: it's cheaper and, in my opinion, much better!
