Bettane & Desseauve
Rated 2 stars (A solid, recommendable production, though slightly more conventional and uniform than the previous one)
About the estate:
Located on the hills above Épernay, the Janisson-Baradon estate is run by Richard Janisson and his two sons, Maxence and Cyril. The vineyard comprises 9 hectares of hillsides surrounding the Champagne capital, tended with care and attention. The Janissons have intelligently modernized the style of their wines, and once again this year, the single-vineyard selections stood out during the tasting, with champagnes of assertive character that retain the region’s characteristic suppleness. A sure bet.

Rated Estate Award-winning Wines (This producer's wines are regularly recognized by the guide)
About the wine:
Once again recognized for its excellence, this brut is a blend of equal parts Pinot Noir and Chardonnay; it is partially aged in oak and spends five years in the cellar. A full-bodied, rich, and mineral-driven champagne with a crisp finish, it combines citrus freshness with ripe fruit notes (candied fruit, dried fruit, and marzipan).
About the estate:
Located on the hills above Épernay, this estate—founded in 1922 by a bottle-turner and a cooper—is now run by their descendants, Maxence and Cyril Janisson, with Maxence handling management and Cyril overseeing the vineyards and cellar. The brothers own more than 9 hectares of vineyards. The estate is HVE-certified.
Guide des Vins Gault & Millau
Wine rated 91/100
Rated 1*Star (High-quality production)
About the wine:
The abundant foam reveals a rich, pastry-like aroma. On the palate, it is fully ripe, evoking bitter almonds, punctuated by salty notes. This mouthwatering, rich cuvée offers a beautiful texture. Save it for creamy dishes such as Vallée d'Auge chicken.
About the estate:
Founded in 1922 by Georges Baradon, a wine-stirrer, and his son-in-law, Maurice Janisson, a cooper, the estate is still run by the Janisson family, who cultivate just over 9 hectares of vineyards on the western slopes of Épernay, in Chouilly and Brimont. The vineyard has been maintained through soil cultivation since 1997, without the use of any herbicides. Most of the vintages are a blend of equal parts Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

A lovely wine and an excellent alternative to big-name Champagnes: it’s cheaper, and in my opinion, much better!

A consistent vintage that remains true to form from one year to the next. It often tastes better the following year.
