Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Winery rated 2 stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

Located in the hills above Épernay, the Janisson-Baradon estate is run by Richard Janisson and his two sons, Maxence and Cyril. The vineyard comprises 9 hectares of hillsides surrounding the capital of Champagne, tended with care and attention. The Janissons have intelligently modernized the style of their wines, and this year once again, single vineyard selections dominated the tasting, with champagnes displaying assertive character while retaining the suppleness typical of the region. A sure bet.

Wine rated 95/100 (2010 vintage)

1*Star rating (Serious production)

About the estate:

Founded in 1922 by Georges Baradon, a riddler, and his son-in-law, Maurice Janisson, a cooper, the house is still run by the Janisson family, who cultivate just over 9 hectares of vines on the western slopes of Épernay, in Chouilly and Brimont. Since 1997, the vineyard has been maintained by tilling the soil, without the use of any weedkillers. Most of the cuvées are a blend of equal parts Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
