"The nose is subtle, with notes of kirsch. The palate is rich, fruity, and velvety. The richness of this cuvée pairs well with whipped cream and red berries or, on a different note, Basque cheese accompanied by black cherries." (Le Guide Gault & Millau) This rosé Champagne is produced from a selection of brut wines to which 12% red Bouzy, a Grand Cru from the Coteaux Champenois, is added. Enjoy with fruit-based desserts.

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Winery rated 2 stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

Located in the hills above Épernay, the Janisson-Baradon estate is run by Richard Janisson and his two sons, Maxence and Cyril. The vineyard comprises 9 hectares of hillsides surrounding the capital of Champagne, tended with care and attention. The Janissons have intelligently modernized the style of their wines, and this year once again, single vineyard selections dominated the tasting, with champagnes displaying assertive character while retaining the suppleness typical of the region. A sure bet.

About the estate:

Located in the hills above Épernay, this estate was founded in 1922 by a remouleur (wine blender) and a cooper. Today, it is run by their descendants, Maxence and Cyril Janisson, the former managing the business and the latter working in the vineyard and cellar. The brothers have more than 9 hectares of vines. HVE-certified property.

1*Star rating (Serious production)

About wine:

The nose is subtle, with notes of kirsch. The palate is rich, fruity, and velvety. The richness of this cuvée pairs well with whipped cream and red berries or, on a different note, Basque cheese accompanied by black cherries.

About the estate:

Founded in 1922 by Georges Baradon, a riddler, and his son-in-law, Maurice Janisson, a cooper, the house is still run by the Janisson family, who cultivate just over 9 hectares of vines on the western slopes of Épernay, in Chouilly and Brimont. Since 1997, the vineyard has been maintained by tilling the soil, without the use of any weedkillers. Most of the cuvées are a blend of equal parts Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

To the delight of ladies...and young women. Discreet nose, slightly oxidized. BSA, with a clean start, fruity—a hint of strawberry Pinot—and roundness from malolactic fermentation. Its vinous and voluminous character is tempered by a hint of saltiness and a touch of bitterness on the finish. Best consumed quickly. Served at 10°C, this brut rosé is perfect as an aperitif and proved very glamorous when paired with a strawberry and white chocolate Yule log. Rating = 3.6.

With age taking its toll, the wine has a rather pronounced woody side, somewhat reminiscent of Savagnin grapes. A beautiful, long structure accompanies the nose perfectly. It's lovely.

"A genuine Champagne from winegrowers." I haven't tasted it yet, just to point out that NM = Négociant manipulant (wine merchant) is not a winegrower! I've tasted it, it's a decent champagne.
