Montsant
The Montsant Designation of Origin (DO) is a Spanish appellation located in the southern part of the Province of Tarragona, in Catalonia. Formerly known as Falset Tarragona (DO), the appellation took the name of the nearby Montsant mountain in 2002. The vineyard now covers a production area of approximately 2,000 hectares.

Montsant is located in the heart of another famous appellation: Priorat. The subsoil consists mainly of granite and slate, mixed on the surface with stony aggregates. The vineyards benefit from a Mediterranean climate with continental influences, featuring hot, dry summers and rather cold winters where frosts are not uncommon. The average elevation of the Montsant vineyard is 360 meters.

The Montsant DO authorizes , among others, the use of the following grape varieties: Chardonnay, Grenache, Macabeu, Moscatelle, Pensal, Parellada, and Trobat for white wines, and Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Merlot, Syrah, and Tempranillo for red wines. Within this small Montsant appellation, the quality of the wines from Cava Agricola Falset Marca is particularly noteworthy.
