Montsant
The Montsant Designation of Origin (DO) is a Spanish appellation in the south of the Province of Tarragona, in Catalonia. Formerly known as Falset Tarragona (DO), in 2002 the appellation took the name of the nearby Montsant mountain. The vineyards now cover a production area of around 2,000 hectares.

Montsant is located in the heart of another famous appellation: Priorat. The subsoil is mainly composed of granite and slate, mixed with stony aggregates on the surface. The vines benefit from a Mediterranean climate with continental influences, with hot, dry summers and rather cold winters where frosts are not uncommon. The average altitude of the Montsant vineyards is 360 meters.

The Montsant DO authorizes the use of the following grape varieties, among others: Chardonnay, Grenache, Macabeu, Moscatelle, Pensal, Parellada, and Trobat for white wines, and Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Merlot, Syrah, and Tempranillo for red wines. Within this small Montsant appellation, the quality of the products from Cava Agricola Falset Marca is particularly noteworthy.
