“A rare tradition in French winemaking: when a Languedoc winemaker sees his harvest destroyed by hail, his less-affected neighbors give him a few barrels to keep him afloat. This highly successful cuvée is thus a blend of the terroirs of Pic Saint-Loup. Buy it to honor this gesture of solidarity—and because the wine is also very good, very rich. And it has a beautiful story to tell.” (The Bettane & Desseauve Guide to French Wines 2018) Fruit and length: the Plaisir cuvée!

Bettane & Desseauve
Rated wine (2019 guide) 14.5/20 + Plaisir Award (Good wine)
Rated estate (2025 guide) 2*Stars (A solid, recommendable vintage, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous one)
About the wine:
Beautiful fruit and a lovely finish—just right.
About the estate:
Following in the footsteps of Bernard Durand, who oversaw Pic Saint-Loup’s transition from a mixed-farming operation focused on sheep to its recognition as a quality wine-growing region, his nephew Régis Valentin has taken over the technical reins. Without fanfare, this is an estate worth seeking out for its Vieilles Vignes cuvée—powerful yet flavorful—its Clos des Combes, and its Grande Cuvée. The Cuvée Madame is even more ambitious, and the rosé is consistently delicious.
Guide Hachette des vins
Rated estate (2025 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines are regularly recognized by the guide)
About the estate:
Régis Valentin, an oenologist and cellar master, took over the estate in 2001, which was founded in 1960 by the Durand-Valentin families. He produces wines from 80 hectares of vineyards (in the process of converting to organic farming since 2019) situated on a beautiful terroir of hard limestone and red clay. A sure bet in the Languedoc.

So I don't understand what the Bettane & Desseauve guide—which gives this wine a very high score of 15.5/20—sees in it. Personally, I'm frankly disappointed with my purchase. Overall, my recent experiences with the "1 Day, 1 Wine" promotion have led me to question the accuracy of the reviews for the wines sold on the site—they’re always rave reviews, but perhaps not justified… maybe a little too sales-driven…!!!

The wine is too fruit-forward; it lacks length on the palate
