Domaine Maby
Domaine Maby, having been passed down through several generations of winemakers, remains a family-owned estate to this day, located in the very heart of the Côtes du Rhône region, just north of Avignon. The estate’s sixty hectares span three appellations—Tavel, Lirac, and Côtes du Rhône—as well as the Vins de Pays des Coteaux de Cèze.
Domaine Maby is committed to environmentally friendly farming practices, having signed a Sustainable Agriculture contract. Tavel and Lirac share the same terroir of rounded pebbles as Châteauneuf-du-Pape. These pebbles, carried down from the Alps by the raging Rhône River in prehistoric times, allow the grapes to reach perfect ripeness by storing heat during the day and releasing it at night.
Domaine Maby’s Tavel is made from nine grape varieties, dominated by Grenache and Cinsault, which give this famous rosé its fruity and spicy character. A one- to two-day low-temperature fermentation gives it a shimmering color ranging from pale pink to ruby and very supple tannins that provide excellent aging potential. Slow fermentation at low temperatures preserves all the fruitiness of this wine. Domaine Maby’s red Lirac is a blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre. The white Lirac is a blend of Grenache, Clairette, and Picpoul. The Grenache brings a very pronounced fruity character (apricot, pear), the Clairette adds roundness, and the Picpoul provides the freshness that allows this wine to display a beautiful balance and excellent aging potential.

The consistent work of the estate and its director, Richard Maby, was recognized in 2021 by the Guide Hachette, which named him Winemaker of the Year 2021 for the southern part of the Rhône Valley.
