“With its deep yet crystal-clear color and an initial wild, fruity nose, this Grenache-Syrah blend—with its refined and luscious bouquet—offers notes of raspberry, blackcurrant, and red bell pepper, along with a full-bodied, rich, and fruity attack. The palate, with its exceptional freshness and beautiful balance, unfolds with finesse and highlights the wine’s substance. Delicate and deep, refined and fresh. It’s a wine that easily wins everyone over, with a rich aftertaste featuring hints of zan and licorice. Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2020 guide) 1*Star (A serious, recommendable production that lives up to what one would expect from its appellation(s))

About the estate:

A leading figure in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Tavel, Alain Jaume runs a family-owned business focused on high-quality wine trading as well as their own exceptional vineyards in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and the Côtes du Rhône. Their greatest source of pride is the “Grand-Veneur,” a classic Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Clos de Sixte, the family estate located in Tavel, offers a fine representation of the appellation, while in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the old-vine cuvée ranks among the appellation’s finest wines. The estate’s future is brilliantly secured by Alain Jaume’s children.

Rated Estate (2022 Guide) Award-Winning Wines (This producer's wines regularly receive awards from the guide)

About the estate:

Originally from Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Alain Jaume and his sons, Sébastien and Christophe, carry on a winemaking tradition that dates back to 1826. They manage a 155-hectare vineyard using organic methods, spread across four estates: Grand Veneur in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Clos de Sixte in Lirac, Ch. Mazane in Vacqueyras, and Dom. la Grangette Saint-Joseph in the Côtes-du-Rhône AOC, all complemented by a wine trading business. A sure bet.

4-Star Rated Estate (Very High-Quality Production)

About the estate:

In the Jaume family, they have been winemakers “…ever since Mathieu Jaume decided to plant vines in Châteauneuf-du-Pape in 1826.” Odile and Alain Jaume and their sons, Christophe and Sébastien, now manage a 70-hectare vineyard (Domaine Grand Veneur, Clos de Sixte) that also produces wines under the Lirac and Côtes du Rhône appellations. As expected, Grenache Noir and Syrah dominate the vineyard’s grape varieties. The estate began the transition to organic farming in 2009.

Wine rated (2019 guide) 92/100 (Excellent wine)

Rated estate (2022 guide) Recommended (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker—The Wine Advocate)

About the wine:

The 2018 Miocène, with its aromas of raspberry and garrigue, turned out to be just as good as I’d hoped after last year’s visit. Medium-bodied to full-bodied, it’s a bit tight and shows more dusty tannins on the finish than I remember, but that should simply serve to extend its drinkability until at least 2030.
