Aged in a large wooden vat, there are no apparent oak aromas or flavors, just the purity of the old-vine fruit, creamy tannins, great concentration, and a brilliant, vibrant, and long finish. About the wine:
Swirls of black raspberry and dark chocolate combine in Vignon's 2019 Gigondas, a blend of 95% Grenache and 5% Mourvèdre sourced from numerous small plots scattered throughout the appellation. Aged in a large wooden vat, there are no apparent oak aromas or flavors, just the purity of the old-vine fruit, creamy tannins, great concentration, and a brilliant, vibrant, and long finish. With its combination of intensity and tension, it should drink well for a decade or more.

About the wine:
An appealing palate with fairly firm tannins, lovely smoothness, and a rounded finish. There’s a good level of freshness here that keeps it lively and engaging. It needs a few years to settle in but will be a delight in the years to come. Best enjoyed between 2023 and 2028.
Vinous
Wine rated (2023 guide) 92/100
About the wine:
Deep, brilliant ruby. Expressive aromas of ripe black fruit, cherry, and candied licorice are complemented by smoky floral and mineral notes. Flavors of black raspberry and bitter cherry are very distinct and become softer as the wine opens up. The finish is juicy, taut, and long, with lingering notes of black fruit and spice. Harmonious tannins give it structure and ensure good longevity.

About the wine:
The 2019 Gigondas offers a more reserved, medium-bodied, elegant style, with lovely notes of salty red and black fruits, peppery herbs, dried flowers, and a distinct minerality. Medium-bodied, elegant, refined, and with a long finish, this is a beautiful wine that will benefit from an additional year in the bottle and will be enjoyable to drink for a decade.

I love Gigondas wines, and I can't say this one disappointed me, but the real shame is that I tasted it shortly after a 2015 Gigondas—whose origin I'll keep to myself—so naturally it didn't quite measure up. I'm going to let it age in the cellar and will let you know how it turns out in a few years.

Review by Mr. Gilles D. Published on June 2, 2023
Though still in its early stages, this Gigondas already makes a strong impression with its power, body, and aromatic complexity. It also offers exceptional concentration and depth in a 2019 vintage of excellent structure. It displays beautiful purity and an abundance of stewed fruit intertwined with spices. A very creamy texture is complemented by a pleasant freshness of orange peel and enhanced by ripe, juicy tannins providing structure, though the finish is a bit short and slightly peppery. Its fine structure gives it excellent aging potential, during which it should continue to improve. Very good value for money. Braised Salers beef ribs cooked with vine shoots, served with Provençal-style tomatoes, pair perfectly with it. Score = 4.2.

Excellent on the nose, but lacks length on the finish. Best tasted again in 4–5 years.
