Robert Parker

"The 2016 Lirac Clos de Sixte is a superb wine that easily rivals many Châteauneufs from across the river, starting with its alluring aromas of flowering garrigue and ripe cherries. Made from a blend of 50% Grenache, 35% Syrah, and 15% Mourvèdre, this full-bodied wine is rich and concentrated on the palate, with a velvety finish. I would treat it like a Châteauneuf-du-Pape in terms of aging potential: keep it for a few years, then enjoy it over the next 15 years. ” (Wine Advocate 2017 – Joe Czerwinski) A Lirac built for aging!

Rated estate (2020 guide) 1*Star (A high-quality, recommendable wine that lives up to what one would expect from its appellation(s))

About the estate:

A leading figure in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Tavel, Alain Jaume runs a family-owned wine merchant business specializing in top-quality wines, as well as managing their own exceptional vineyards in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and the Côtes du Rhône. Their greatest source of pride is the “Grand-Veneur,” a classic Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Clos de Sixte, the family estate located in Tavel, offers a fine representation of the appellation, while in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the old-vine cuvée ranks among the appellation’s finest wines. The estate’s future is brilliantly secured by Alain Jaume’s children.

Hachette Wine Guide

Guide Hachette des vins

Wine rated (2019 guide) 2** stars (Outstanding Wine)

Rated Estate (2022 Guide) Award-Winning Wines (This producer's wines regularly receive awards from the guide)

About the wine:

This Lirac offers a delicate yet intense nose of licorice and red berries (strawberry and raspberry). Equally intense on the palate, it is rich, full-bodied, and fruity, with notes of kirsch and wild blackberry, and features a superb peppery finish that is characteristic of the appellation’s finest terroirs.

About the estate:

Originally from Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Alain Jaume and his sons, Sébastien and Christophe, carry on a winemaking tradition that dates back to 1826. They farm 155 hectares of vineyards organically, spread across four estates: Grand Veneur in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Clos de Sixte in Lirac, Château Mazane in Vacqueyras, and Domaine la Grangette Saint-Joseph in the Côtes-du-Rhône AOC, all complemented by a wine trading business. A sure bet.

4-Star Rated Estate (Very High-Quality Production)

About the estate:

In the Jaume family, they have been winemakers “…ever since Mathieu Jaume decided to plant vines in Châteauneuf-du-Pape in 1826.” Odile and Alain Jaume and their sons, Christophe and Sébastien, now manage a 70-hectare vineyard (Domaine Grand Veneur, Clos de Sixte) that also produces wines under the Lirac and Côtes du Rhône appellations. As expected, Grenache Noir and Syrah dominate the vineyard’s grape varieties. The estate began transitioning to organic farming in 2009.

Already very good. Lots of fruit. The tannins are starting to mellow. Should continue to refine over the next two years. Wines from this producer are at their best between 6 and 10 years, depending on the vintage. The perfect wine for this winter, paired with game dishes served in sauce.
