Montagne-Saint-Emilion
Red in color, Montagne Saint Emilion is a distinguished wine. It has very appealing attributes.
Montagne Saint Emilion wine has a ruby color with various dark shades.
The distinguished character of Montagne-Saint-Émilion brandy is confirmed by its aromas. In fact, when the bottle is opened, scents composed mainly of red fruits, cherries, undergrowth, peppers, blackberries, prunes, blackcurrants, and licorice can be detected. It is even possible to distinguish surprising scents of candied fruit, such as notes of roasted coffee and chocolate, inherited from the undergrowth aging process.
This is a distinguished, elegant, full-bodied, warm, generous, and ample wine, much like Château La Chapelle or Château Gachon.

If you think these are the only flavors you will experience with Montagne Saint Émilion, think again. As you progress, you will be taken aback by its powerful, ripe tannins. The finish is also distinguished by its freshness, fruity notes, and persistence. As you can see, Montagne Saint-Émilion is a vintage that you absolutely must not miss.

The origin of Montagne Saint Emilion wine

Roman monuments and ruins bear witness to a rich past and ancient winegrowing traditions around Saint-Emilion. Barbarian invasions put winegrowing on hold, and it was not until the Middle Ages that it began to flourish once again. The Montagne-Saint-Émilion vineyard has been awarded an appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) since a decree of November 14, 1936. The Montagne-Saint-Émilion appellation covers the territory of the commune of Montagne and the hamlets of Parsac and Saint-Georges. The 1,450 hectares of vineyards in the Montagne-Saint-Émilion appellation produce nearly 70,000 hectoliters of wine annually.

To the north-northeast of the Saint-Emilion hill, the Montagne-Saint-Emilion wine region consists mainly of limestone or clay-limestone soil. However, some areas are gravelly or sandy. The whole area rests on a thick, porous layer of asteriated limestone (microfossils of crustaceans dating back to the Mesozoic era). During the summer drought, this limestone supplies the soil with water through capillary action. The Montagne-Saint-Émilion vineyard enjoys a temperate oceanic climate, with regular rainfall and significant sunshine and summer heat. The "Indian summers" allow the grapes to ripen well.

Montagne-Saint-Émilion wines are mainly blended from Merlot and Cabernet Franc, which account for 60% and 30% of the grape varieties respectively. Montagne-Saint-Émilion wines have intense aromas of red fruits, undergrowth, and cherry, as well as pepper, blackberry, and licorice. On the palate, they are full-bodied, warm, balanced and well-structured. These are powerful, racy, generous and always distinguished wines, such as Château Gachon and Château La Chapelle.

How is Saint Emilion mountain wine produced?

Montagne Saint Emilion wine is the flagship wine product of this French commune. It is grown on limestone or clay-limestone soil. During droughts, the limestone supplies the soil with water through capillary action. The rest of the time, the Montagne-Saint-Émilion vineyard benefits from a temperate oceanic climate with regular rainfall and optimal sunshine.

This promotes the proper ripening of the grapes. As a general rule, Montagne-Saint-Émilion wines are blended from Merlot and Cabernet Franc, which account for 60% and 30% of the grape varieties, respectively. The wine is then aged naturally until it develops the consistency, aromas, and flavors that delight all the senses.
