"Simply fantastic!"

“Aromas of citrus zest, freshly baked bread, beeswax, buttered popcorn, and vanilla bean set the stage for the 2019 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru (Domaine des Héritiers Jadot), a full-bodied, silky, and layered wine that is rich and muscular, with a concentrated, structured core of fruit encircled by racy acidity and a chalky dry extract. Long and resonant, it will reward patience. ” (Wine Advocate 2022) • Delivery in a wooden case is available for orders of 6 bottles of this wine (depending on country and selected shipping method)

Rated estate (2025 guide) 4*Stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)

About the estate:

The Gagey family’s involvement with this true gem of Burgundy’s historical heritage began upon the death of Louis-Auguste Jadot. With no heir, the estate was entrusted in 1962 to André Gagey, who remained its manager until 1991, when he handed the reins to his son Pierre-Henry, who now oversees the 225 hectares of vineyards. Since 2011, winemaking has been overseen by Frédéric Barnier, who has seamlessly succeeded Jacques Lardière, further improving the consistency and uniformity of all vintages. The whites are pneumatically pressed and fermented directly in barrels, where they undergo aging on the lees with periodic stirring for 12 to 20 months. The red wines are vinified with the stems removed but without crushing, without cold pre-fermentation, and undergo a vatting period of 25 to 27 days before beginning their aging for 12 to 22 months in barrels, one-third of which are new.

Rated estate (2022 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)

About the wine:

Delicately textured with notes of breadcrumbs and new oak, the 2019 Corton-Charlemagne stands out for its silkiness and rich, full-bodied character, though its fruit will need time to integrate the still-prominent aging influence.

About the estate:

This prestigious wine merchant is run with great efficiency by Pierre-Henry Gagey, who is deeply involved in Burgundy. The company boasts an exceptionally extensive range and a superb collection of terroirs, encompassing the major Burgundian appellations. Frédéric Barnier, who has been in charge of winemaking since 2012, is gradually making his mark by refining the wines. Consistency is one of this house’s strengths. While the whites display beautiful balance, the reds are austere and severe, with oak notes that dominate the fruit and even hints of acetate that, this year, make it difficult to assess certain vintages. Let’s hope this is temporary, as the company’s reputation is at stake.

About the wine:

Round and silky, the nose seems a bit shy at first. Upon further reflection, it reveals lovely notes of ripe pineapple, lemon verbena, and fresh pear, as well as fresh hay, a hint of vanilla, and a creamy, buttery finish. Balanced by a lovely acidity, the wine has aging potential well beyond 2030.

About the wine:

A complex, sensual nose of citrus and pineapple with a hint of melted butter. The powerful, well-structured palate is enlivened by mineral acidity that carries the tight finish well into the aftertaste. Drink now or cellar.

Falstaff

Wine rated (2021 guide) 95/100

About the wine:

Distant wood smoke, fresh and toasted hazelnuts, and a vegetal note of dried yarrow come through beautifully on the nose. The palate follows with equal parts opulence and precision. One aspect reveals a creamy texture, while the other highlights its mineral depth. A subtle freshness frames this supple wine, whose power is well-controlled yet unmistakable. A taut, smoky finish.
