Rated estate (2021 guide): 4* Stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)

About the estate:

Under the leadership of Olivier Halley, Stéphane Follin-Arbelet, and cellar master Emmanuel Escutenaire, this estate—which expanded to 65 hectares in 2018—has been undergoing a revolution in its working methods and interpretation of its terroirs for several years now. Thirty hectares are farmed organically, with the goal of converting the entire estate within three years. Significant investments made over the past three years in high-performance viticultural equipment have enabled progress. The whites possess both a dynamic tension and a generous mouthfeel, even if 2018 is not the vintage that suits them best. The reds, whose berries are destemmed and optically sorted before undergoing low-temperature fermentation followed by 12 to 15 months of aging in barrels (25 to 40% new), offer a sappy, fleshy, and deep character, with the 2018s being particularly racy. This represents an absolutely impressive progression in a very short time for an estate of this size.

Rated estate (2023 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the estate:

The iconic Château de Meursault, a mecca for Burgundy tourism and wine folklore—where the famous Paulée is celebrated the day after the Hospices de Beaune auction—has changed hands many times: owned by the family of Pierre de Blancheton until the Revolution; by the Serre family in the 19th century; ; the family of the Count of Moucheron; the Boisseaux family (Patriarche estate) from 1973 onward. In December 2012, another change: the Halley family purchased the estate. Today, it comprises 65 hectares of vineyards in the process of converting to organic farming. At the helm of the winery: Emmanuel Escutenaire.
