“The 2009 Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Boudots takes a big step forward. It is a harmonious wine with black fruit, licorice, and spices. The fruit envelops a round, sensual finish, while the silky tannins lend a sense of considerable elegance. Les Boudots lies on the border with Vosne-Romanée. ” (Wine Advocate - Robert Parker)

Rated estate (2025 guide) 4*Stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)
About the wine:
Intense aroma, velvety texture, rich tannins; sensual yet elegant, with excellent length—this wine will be perfect in ten years paired with game birds.
About the estate:
The Gagey family’s involvement with this true gem of Burgundy’s historical heritage began upon the death of Louis-Auguste Jadot. With no heir, the estate was entrusted in 1962 to André Gagey, who remained its manager until 1991, when he handed the reins to his son Pierre-Henry, who now oversees the 225 hectares of vineyards. Since 2011, winemaking has been overseen by Frédéric Barnier, who has seamlessly succeeded Jacques Lardière, further improving the consistency and uniformity of all vintages. The whites are pneumatically pressed and fermented directly in barrels, where they are aged on the lees with periodic stirring for 12 to 20 months. The red wines are vinified with the stems removed but without crushing, without cold pre-fermentation, and undergo a vatting period of 25 to 27 days before beginning their aging for 12 to 22 months in barrels, one-third of which are new.

Wine noted (guide 2014) 1*Star (Very successful wine)
About the wine:
This Beaune-based winery offers an impressive wine list, ranging from the new Burgundy hillside wines to the grands crus. Here is a Nuits-Saint-Georges from a renowned 1er cru with stony soils, neighboring the Malconsorts in Vosne-Romanée. This 2009 vintage already displays orange hues and nearly matured aromas of undergrowth. However, it hasn’t reached its full potential yet, judging by its dense body, freshness, and silky tannins. Its nose is lovely: those same forest floor notes, along with candied red fruit, cherry liqueur, and subtle oak, and the palate follows this aromatic profile. A pleasant bottle to open without haste starting in late 2013 with a stew, or to keep, monitoring its development.

About the estate:
This prestigious wine merchant is run with great efficiency by Pierre-Henry Gagey, who is deeply involved in Burgundy. The company boasts an exceptionally extensive range and a superb collection of terroirs, covering all the major Burgundian appellations. Frédéric Barnier, who has been in charge of winemaking since 2012, is gradually making his mark by refining the wines. Consistency is one of this house’s strengths. While the whites display beautiful balance, the reds are austere and severe, with oak notes that dominate the fruit and even hints of acetate that, this year, make it difficult to assess certain vintages. Let’s hope this is temporary, as the company’s reputation is at stake.

A beautiful, deep purple color. Robust, complex, and rich on the palate. I’m used to Burgundy wines with more minerality. Best served after aging.
