"A favorite Saint-Romain for all wine lovers!"

“Sous la Velle holds a prominent place among the many delights of the Buisson winery, and the 2024 vintage lives up to the estate’s reputation, with pronounced aromas of lime zest, gooseberry, and a salty, mineral note. The texture is taut, with lively acidity, but the wine’s body and richness bring balance; a delightful and pleasant hint of bitterness lingers on the finish. This 2.5-hectare vineyard, facing due south at an elevation of 370 meters, produces the flagship cuvée of this remarkable estate. 2028–2045” (Decanter 2026)

Rated estate (2023 guide): 3*Stars (High-quality production that serves as a benchmark in its sector)

About the estate:

Frédérick and Franck Buisson, whose family has lived in the village since the 12th century, represent the eighth generation of winemakers at this historic estate in Saint-Romain. Écocert-certified since 2012, they practice viticulture and winemaking using the most natural methods possible. The red wines, which always contain a small proportion of whole clusters, offer a precise reflection of their terroir, championing the rediscovery of a Saint-Romain that we have rarely seen at this level. The precise white wines are no less impressive.

Rated Estate (2023 Guide) 1*Star (Rising stars or high-quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)

About the estate:

Frédéric, the winemaker, and Franck, the sales representative, manage one of the largest estates in the southern part of the Côte de Beaune. Having practiced organic farming—certified since 2009—they made the transition to biodynamic farming in 2018. For the past ten years, they have been following the lunar calendar for bottling. Their meticulous work in the vineyard and cellar allows them to produce deep, distinguished wines that age well. This estate beautifully showcases the Saint-Romain appellation in both reds and whites; the wines are refined, precise, and elegant. A range of wines that fully deserves its first star.

Wine rated (2026 guide) 91-93/100

About the wine:

The 2024 Saint-Romain Sous La Velle, made from vines up to 80 years old, features a fragrant bouquet with notes of orange blossom, lime, and crushed stone, elegantly expressing the limestone soils. The palate is almost mineral on the attack, with fairly lively citrus acidity derived from the limestone and notes of oyster shell, leading to a mouthwatering finish. Excellent. 2027–2037
