Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Winery rated 2 stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

Located in the hills above Épernay, the Janisson-Baradon estate is run by Richard Janisson and his two sons, Maxence and Cyril. The vineyard comprises 9 hectares of hillsides surrounding the capital of Champagne, tended with care and attention. The Janissons have intelligently modernized the style of their wines, and this year once again, single vineyard selections dominated the tasting, with champagnes displaying assertive character while retaining the suppleness typical of the region. A sure bet.

About the estate:

Located in the hills above Épernay, this estate was founded in 1922 by a remueur (a person who stirs the must during fermentation) and a cooper. Today, it is run by their descendants, Maxence and Cyril Janisson, the former managing the business and the latter working in the vineyard and cellar. The brothers have more than 9 hectares of vines. HVE-certified property.

Wine rated 89/100

1*Star rating (Serious production)

About wine:

With an alcohol content of 2 g/l, this wine offers beautiful fullness on the palate. Rich, spicy, and mature, it is perfect as an aperitif with gougères.

About the estate:

Founded in 1922 by Georges Baradon, a riddler, and his son-in-law, Maurice Janisson, a cooper, the house is still run by the Janisson family, who cultivate just over 9 hectares of vines on the western slopes of Épernay, in Chouilly and Brimont. Since 1997, the vineyard has been maintained by tilling the soil without the use of any weedkillers. Most of the cuvées are a blend of equal parts Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Extra-BSA nature, not very complex and electrified by a frank liveliness that stretches out on the sharp edge to a full and fresh finish. Ideal for scallops pan-fried in olive oil and small shallots, to tame with tenderness and sweetness the typical ardor and nervousness of non-dosage vintages. Rating = 3.7.

A beautiful wine, refined and distinguished, exactly as I expected. A tip that applies to most wines from this producer: they develop greater complexity and charm if you keep them in the cellar for at least a year.

Precise and straightforward, beautifully fresh, a mineral wine with floral aromas and subtle, delicate milky notes. A very good champagne for an aperitif.
