"As beautiful as the 2016, the potential blend of the 2017 Ventoux Quintessence made my mouth water in anticipation. It is full-bodied and rich but crisp on the finish, loaded with blueberries and notes of dried spices." (Wine Advocate - Joe Czerwinski) Since 1990, this cuvée has emphasized the notion of exceptionality and concentration, with a powerful and complex wine. A wonderful introduction to discovering red wines from a selection of plots.

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2022 guide) 2 stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

This family-run estate, now in its third generation, produces a wide range of structured wines on some 70 hectares, in a modern and ambitious style that places them among the must-haves of Ventoux. Now managed by Frédéric and Alexandre Chaudière, the vineyard has nine grape varieties grown on clay-limestone slopes at an altitude of 300 meters. The wines are vinified with great care.

Wine rated (2020 guide) 16/20 (Very good wine)

Rated estate (2023 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking and, as such, all the estates listed in it, even those without stars, represent, in our opinion, the excellence of French production.)

About wine:

A palette that reveals black fruits and spices, with a pronounced but nuanced woodiness. The palate is rich with beautiful tannins. The fruit is prominent and the texture is tight, but the relationship with the woodiness is much better managed.

About the estate:

The history of this estate began in the 1970s, when the Chaudière grandparents restored the château and part of the vineyard. Paul and Edith then gave it new impetus by leaving the cooperative and focusing on terroir selection. Since 2000, their sons Frédéric and Alexandre have been overseeing the destiny of this vast vineyard. We are impressed by the stylistic shift in the wines: they have really gained in finesse and flavor, and are a worthy representation of the freshness of the terroir.
