"The true jewel in the crown of the estate"

"A blend of 80% Syrah and 20% Grenache, fermented in concrete and then aged equally in concrete, demi-muids, and barrels, the Ventoux Quintessence 2022 seems to be one of the best examples I have tasted of this cuvée. On the nose, impressive aromas of blueberries are accompanied by raspberries and a touch of black olive, while the palate is full-bodied, richly concentrated and supple, with notes of licorice and mint on a long, velvety finish." Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2022 guide) 2 stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

This family-run estate, now in its third generation, produces a wide range of structured wines on some 70 hectares, in a modern and ambitious style that places them among the must-haves of Ventoux. Now managed by Frédéric and Alexandre Chaudière, the vineyard has nine grape varieties grown on clay-limestone slopes at an altitude of 300 meters. The wines are vinified with great care.

Rated estate (2023 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking and, as such, all the estates listed in it, even those without stars, represent, in our opinion, the excellence of French production.)

About the estate:

The history of this estate began in the 1970s, when the Chaudière grandparents restored the château and part of the vineyard. Paul and Edith then gave it new impetus by leaving the cooperative and focusing on terroir selection. Since 2000, their sons Frédéric and Alexandre have been overseeing the destiny of this vast vineyard. We are impressed by the stylistic shift in the wines: they have really gained in finesse and flavor, and are a worthy representation of the freshness of the terroir.

Wine rated (2025 guide) 93/100

About wine:

The nose is intense and deeply layered, where burnt earth and iodine mingle with aromas of ripe fruit and truffle. The palate is harmonious, revealing fresh notes of blackberry, violet, garrigue, sage, and a touch of cocoa powder. A granite minerality defines the finish, softened by gentle acidity. This wine pairs naturally with roasted or braised meats.

Wine rated (2025 guide) 94/100

About wine:

The Ventoux Quintessence 2022 is characteristic of a classic Syrah with its aromas of ripe, juicy red fruits, peppery herbs, violet, and chalky minerality. It is a medium-bodied to full-bodied red wine with fine tannins and a supple, complex, and elegant palate.
