Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated (2019 guide) 16/20 (Very good wine)
About the wine:
The fullest-bodied red in the lineup, with great vinous character yet without losing the naturalness and fruitiness of the estate’s more approachable wines.
RVF - La Revue du Vin de France / Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France
Wine rated (2019 guide) 16/20 (Very good wine)
Rated Estate (2023 Guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often boasting fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to the consistency and excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)
About the wine:
Spicy nose, black pepper, slightly reduced, with hints of wood. Full-bodied on the palate, intensely fruity, dark fruit, grainy tannins, lovely sweetness, a cocoa-like finish, good power, and a hint of minerality.
About the estate:
The Plageoles family has left its mark on the recent history of wine in Gaillac. Robert, followed by Bernard and Myriam—who brilliantly carried on his legacy—were pioneers in championing local grape varieties and traditional winemaking techniques. The next generation is gradually taking the reins through Bernard’s sons, Florent and Romain, who are wholeheartedly dedicated to the twelve varieties in their vineyard, including the delicious Prunelart, the extremely rare Verdanel, and the quartet of Mauzac (green, red, pink, and black). Unconcerned with trends and off the beaten path, the estate continues to produce, with the utmost care, exclusively single-varietal wines endowed with strong personalities. This work of the mind, heart, and hands is fully reflected in a range of wines that strive for purity, integrity, and originality.

I loved the first few bottles I opened. It has a beautiful, full-bodied texture with plenty of freshness. I'm trying to hold onto the last few I have for a little while longer.

Juicy and delicate. I agree with the description—I’ve never tasted a Duras this enjoyable and well-rounded. I love the licorice notes on the palate. Decent length. Enjoy it just like an excellent Beaujolais or an equally good Chinon. I’ll definitely buy more!
