Bettane & Desseauve
"Duras has a beautiful structure, smooth and spicy, which is coming into its own today." (Le Guide Bettane & Desseauve des Vins de France 2018) This forgotten grape variety from the South-West is juicy and delicate. A lovely discovery!

Wine rated (2019 guide) 16/20 (Very good wine)
About wine:
The densest red in the range, with great vinosity but without losing the naturalness and fruitiness of the estate's more immediate wines.
RVF - La Revue du Vin de France / Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France
Wine rated (2019 guide) 16/20 (Very good wine)
Rated estate (2023 guide) 2 stars (These very large estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).
About wine:
Spicy nose, black pepper, slightly reduced, undergrowth. Full-bodied palate, intense fruitiness, black fruits, grainy tannins, lovely sweetness, long cocoa finish, good power, mineral touch.
About the estate:
The Plageoles family has left its mark on the recent history of wine in Gaillac. Robert, then Bernard and Myriam, who brilliantly took over from him, were pioneers in defending local grape varieties and traditional winemaking techniques. The baton is gradually being passed on to Bernard's sons, Florent and Romain, who are wholeheartedly committed to the twelve varieties grown in their vineyard, including the delicious Prunelart, the extremely rare Verdanel, and the four varieties of Mauzac (green, red, pink, and black). Unfazed by trends and unconventional, the estate continues to produce exclusively single-varietal wines with strong personalities. This work of the mind, heart, and hands is fully reflected in a range of vintages that strive for purity, integrity, and originality.

I loved the first bottles we opened. A beautiful, full-bodied wine with lots of freshness. I'm trying to hold on to the last few bottles I have left a little longer.

Juicy and delicate. I agree with the description; I didn't know Duras could be so pleasant and accomplished. I love the licorice flavor on the palate. Good length. Enjoy it like an excellent Beaujolais or an equally good Chinon. I'll be buying more!
