Bettane & Desseauve
Drawn from tradition by Maison Plageoles, this wine is one of the great families of sherry-style whites or Jura yellow wines. Aged in barrels for seven years without topping up, it is the quintessence of the Mauzac grape variety. A rare and original cuvée!

Rated estate (2023 guide) 2 stars (These very large estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).
About wine:
Roasted hazelnut nose, curry, clean attack, full-bodied, frank, lively, beautiful complexity, notes of sweet curry, saffron, fresh nuts, beautiful spicy length, roasted hazelnut.
About the estate:
The Plageoles family has left its mark on the recent history of wine in Gaillac. Robert, then Bernard and Myriam, who brilliantly took over from him, were pioneers in defending local grape varieties and traditional winemaking techniques. The baton is gradually being passed on to Bernard's sons, Florent and Romain, who are wholeheartedly committed to the twelve varieties grown in their vineyard, including the delicious Prunelart, the extremely rare Verdanel, and the four varieties of Mauzac (green, red, pink, and black). Unfazed by trends and unconventional, the estate continues to produce exclusively single-varietal wines with strong personalities. This work of the mind, heart, and hands is fully reflected in a range of vintages that strive for purity, integrity, and originality.

Does not compare in terms of complexity to a yellow wine.

Clearer than a yellow wine, with a delicate nose and very slight hints of curry. Classic oxidative wine palate, frank and fairly straightforward. Closer to a manzanilla sherry than a yellow wine, which has a much more complex palate. Perfect as an aperitif.

Exceptional, nutty, curry, a great wine worthy of a Chalon château!
